What’s In A Comment?

Much as I like reading blogs, I hafta confess that I sometimes like the Comments, even more than the actual blogs. Some bloggers have a readership who like to comment – 100 or more comments in some cases – whereas others seem to have none. Poor me! Some have a very loyal fanbase who comment on most of their blogs, whereas others have simply no comments at all.

I personally feel that, to have no comments at all, is like wondering just whether there is anybody out there. Know what I mean? Some of my very favourite blogs, e.g. Deb, Alice, and Claire, seem to get very few comments, though I’m sure – no, positive, – that they have many avid readers. I reckon that even upsetting people is better than getting nothing. At least somebody is reading the blog.

So I started thinking. There seem to be several ‘awards’ for bloggers, but…………..none for ‘Commenters’! Well. That just ain’t fair, cos some are excellent. So I have decided to award a ‘Mention in Dispatches‘ to just such a person. But who?

Ha, plenty to choose from. Unfortunately, only one could win this most prestigious award, so I had to decide. I was kinda stuck between two. The one who lost out is, I’m afraid, jailhouselawyer, for his remark on Mousie’s site on 2nd August. Mousie, a Charge Nurse in Accident & Emergency Dept., was up to her neck with very seriously ill casualties, when she was constantly being harrassed by somebody accompanying an elderly man, who was complaining of a sore knee! After taking more hassle than is good for anybody, Mousie explained to the complainer that she was dealing with a young person who was fighting for his life. The man with the sore knee could either take it home, or wait until Mousie had dealt with the ‘life-or-death’ situation in Cubicle 3.

JailHouseLawyer’s comment? “Methinks she had a knee-jerk reaction”. – Priceless.

But….the comment that tickled me the most, was one on Little Wing‘s blog, dated 16th August, by JQ75. Little Wing had published 3 joke cartoons, and in the Comments appeared this diatribe; (please read it all);

“ahem… AHEM…My dearest littlewing are ya trying to drive me nuts… You are makin me work way too hard for this joke…

I have started to use Atom feeds to monitor Blogs I read regularly, so I don’t have to check on them manually, and beep, it told me you updated yours so one click and it launches me directly to the newest post, I looked at it. wrote a comment, as I was posting the comment, you deleted the post to rearrange the comics and give the post a different name. Meanwhile I’m trying to force the comment to post by issuing a refresh and repost command impatiently while cussing my computer and crash boom bang my browser and all the windows and

tabs (like to keep a dozen or so open) go clattering to the ground, my diagnostic recovery kicked in dumping the system memory, advising me of my privacy, asking me all kinds of questions about what I was doing then connecting to the vendor’s (Firefox, the alternative browser for those who hate Micro$oft, Go Mozilla) quality control database…

So after restarting my browser and signing into Blogger, what did I do, take a short cut by using the link in the Atom feed to go directly to the post that was now completely gone, and almost started the process over again… Then I said – Wait is that girl playin with me… Would she do that, sure she would…”

Poor sod! Can you just picture all that hassle, frustration, curses, and what-have-you, and all ‘cos of Little Wing’s awful cartoons!

Stand up JQ75 as you are hereby Mentioned in Dispatches.

  1. Well it couldn’t go to a more deserving chap!
Sometimes JQ75 drives me crazy with his analytical mind, the man is just too brilliant!
Yep I remember that comment well, it went on and on and on and on……..I had no clue what he was even talking about!!!!!!

  2. I like the comments too. It’s nice reading what other people think about the post, as long as it isn’t abuse of course…
It lets you know that people are actually reading & it’s nice to add a bit of interaction too :)

  3. Hey, Thanks a lot, it was a crazy day today, so I didn’t get around to the Blogs…

Thanks so much for the recognition…

I thought it was witty, and if you are not much into computers you can skip that and still find a bit of humor.

And hopefully without hurting Littlewing’s feelings, after all that what do I get, ugh… But then it’s her other posts that have me as a reader…

As is typical with computers, the more ya try to make them efficient (using feeds, multiple tabs, etc) the more trouble ya get into.

And as I said, amongst all those comments I was happy to see at least one person see it my way…

  4. Giggles!! Too funny Dickiebo. I too love reading the comments. To me the comments add more to the post. It’s the interaction with those other bloggers that lights the fire beneath. I rather enjoy the correspondence.

You’ve changed your blog YET again!

    Looks great though!

    smile
