“Travellers could be recruited by Sussex Police to ensure the force represents the community it serves.
Emma Nuttall, of Friends, Families And Travellers, a national charity based in Brighton, said: “Gypsies get a bad press. We welcome this recruitment plan wholeheartedly.
“We are already in discussion with a number of police forces, including Sussex and Kent.”
Last year Sussex Police introduced a gypsy and travellers equality champion – a high ranking officer* with the job of increasing awareness of the group among colleagues. [My God! Increase awareness? Just look at the bloody crimes committed!]
They have also drawn up an action plan through consultation with members of the gypsy and traveller communities.
This included appointing liaison officers for the community.”
* In case you wondered just what senior police officers actually do!

The Irish type ‘travellers’ came here later (may be after the potato famine?) and the third wave, of Roma gypsies have been arriving since the late 1990s.
I cannot imagine that an irish traveller would last long on the caravan site if the others found out he was a ‘gavver’.

My main point with all ’special treatment’ for minority groups is this; If they are good enough to do the (any) job, then there would be no need for special treatment. It was like Chief Constable (No) Brain at Gloucester, refusing to accept any white, male, ’straight’ officers – until he was stopped! I’m sorry but ‘Special Treatment’ is exactly that – special treatment. And that must be to the detriment of someone from a majority grouping.
