I liked the comment about the couch, personally!! However, on that subject of what countries spend their money on? With a few exceptions, the Olympians are poor little rich kids with bossy parents who know how to organize fund raisers and people who could never actually afford to go see it happen are stupid enough to cough up surprising amounts of money, none of which companies to the money put out by the multimillion dollar businesses that get to see their names all over everything and everyone!! Ironically, most of these businesses can’t afford to pay reasonable wages to anyone but the top execs, and we won’t even talk about medical insurance… Yup, I’m a kill joy!!

“can’t afford” is figurative, sarcastic, silly! They claim they can’t afford it, and in fact most of them ship the work to f/ing China because they “can’t afford” it!! Perhaps I should have put it in quotes up above, or further explained
