The pistol was given to Nightingale as a present, his supporters sayAn SAS soldier detained for 18 months for illegally possessing a pistol and ammunition has won his freedom at the Court of Appeal.

Judges at the Court of Appeal reduced Nightingale’s sentence to 12 months.
However, they suspended the sentence and said he could be released immediately.
They weapons and ammunition were recovered by police from Nightingale’s Army accommodation near Hereford.

I should bloody well think so, too. And what about the idiot McGrigor then?
This has been an outrageous situation from the outset. Sure, on the face of it he perhaps could and should have dealt with the gun differently. But he is not a “normal” member of society in a “normal” job. He quite literally dodges bullets and bombes for a living which is intended to keep the rest of us safe. The judge who originally sentenced him should be fired immediately on the grounds of incompetence as that’s usually what happens in any other job when you’re just not up to it. As for the way he was treated by his regiment, this is also utterly shameful and should be addressed as a matter of urgency. He should be reinstated although whether that is practical or not is another point entirely. He should at least be allowed to claim for constructive dismissal and claim his army pension as this situation deserved little more than a reprimand for breach of procedures in my opinion.
I’m with you all the way, John.
… and not before time too xx
